Swiss Voile Lace

swiss-lace.jpgSwiss Voile Lace is exceptional type of clothing fabric that was adopted in Africa in the 1960's and has become part of the main stream culture in the world of African clothing. Laces were originally used in some African countries like Nigeria where it was used mostly for underwear hemming. The people of Delta and Eastern Nigeria wore lace blouses with their traditional wrappers.
The embroidery producers in Austria later discovered the broader market in the 1960's when an Austrian business man stopped over at Lagos (Nigeria) and found out that women wore a lot of bright embroidered clothes. He later returned with samples of the Austrian Lace and it became a hit and the Swiss Lace as it popularly called was introduced to the African market. Switzerland has always produced top quality laces for the world and that is why most laces are called Swiss Voile Lace in the African market. Austria and Switzerland still produces the best quality African laces but other countries are now producing African laces for the growing African market.
