Kente Cloth

Kente Cloth
Kente cloth could be traced back to the 17th century and was the official royal outfit for the Asante Kingdom of Ghana in West Africa.

Kente is woven by hand on looms or weaving devices in a tightly formed weaving basket. Kente is regarded as a sign of cultural sophistication and nobility and the motifs and patterns are designed to commemorate an important event and/or personality and will have a special meaning to the person wearing it. It is symbol of power and prestige. The myth behind the origin of kente cloth was that this royal tradition started when two friends watched a spider weave its web. They too decided to imitate this artistry by the spider and Kente weaving was born. Africans have a very strong relationship with mother nature.

The Hand-woven Kente fabric from Ghana will give you a sense of this royal tradition. Also available here is the cotton print Kente fabric

The hand woven Kente is sold in 4 yards 2 piece set or 6 yard 3 piece set. It measures 62 by 37 inches. The cotton print kente is sold in six yards piece.
